What Is A DBS Number?

Your Disclosure and Barring Service number is issued to you on your certificate, which is provided by the DBS following your DBS check.

If you haven’t received your certificate yet, you may have been provided an application reference number by the DBS (These take the format: “E1234567890”) or a customer reference number by the Umbrella Body responsible for your application. However, neither of these are your DBS Certificate Number.

What Is A DBS Certificate Number For?

The DBS number is a reference number, used to confirm a DBS certificate’s authenticity. Practical purposes include:

– Safeguarding & record-keeping at the organisation requesting the check.

Where Can I Find My DBS Number?

Your DBS number is located at the top right-hand corner of the first page of the certificate, next to the heading “Certificate Number” or “Disclosure Number” if you have received a Disclosure Scotland check.

The DBS number is a 12-digit number, and it is usually preceded by the letters “DBS”.

If you look for the ‘Certificate Number’ or ‘Disclosure Number’ on the front of your certificate, you’ll be able to find it.

What If I’ve Lost My Certificate?

If you don’t have your DBS certificate and need to obtain your DBS number, you can contact the DBS customer services team for assistance. They will be able to give you it over the phone, as long as you can provide them with the necessary information to verify your identity and DBS check.

You will need to provide the following information to the DBS customer services team:

– Your full name as it appears on your application form,
– Your date of birth,
– Your current address,
– The type of DBS check you applied for,
– The application reference number (if you have it),

Once the DBS customer services team has verified your identity and DBS check details, they should be able to provide you with your DBS number over the phone.

The DBS will only issue a DBS certificate reprint if it’s between 14 and 93 days since the certificate was issued, and they will not issue reprints for certificates which have been damaged or misplaced. In these cases, a new check will need to be done.

Hi Leandro,

Thanks for your question, to obtain a DBS number, you will need to undertake a DBS check. Then the DBS number will show on your certificate once it has been printed and sent out to you.

I hope this helps.
