However, there’s no way of requesting an Enhanced DBS check for yourself, so you’ll have to get one via the local council you’re applying for your PVH licence with.
Unfortunately, what often happens is that the council will charge you an extortionate DBS fee, because they know you need the licence and they’re the only ones who can issue it.
For example, here at Aaron’s Department we offer employers an Enhanced DBS check for £38 in DBS fees (which goes straight to the government, not us) and £10.95.
But, our local council (Leeds) has been known to charge drivers over £80 for DBS checks, and won’t accept checks done elsewhere.
The council may also want to regularly renew your DBS check, usually once every 1–3 years, which involves paying for a new one.
Do Uber Drivers Require DBS Checks? – What Can Be Done?
Unfortunately, nothing can be done to avoid this. If you want to drive for Uber and need a DBS check, you’ll simply have to pay whatever is asked of you. Each council operates independently, so let’s hope yours isn’t too expensive.
