When a DBS application is being created, it can be possible to miss off a single letter in a name mistakenly. If this happens, it raises the question: Is My DBS Valid If My Name Is Spelt Wrong?
Is My DBS Valid If My Name Is Spelt Wrong?
If you receive your DBS Certificate and notice that there is a spelling mistake in your name, the Certificate should be considered unreliable and invalid.
Should you notice a mistake on your DBS Certificate, you must let your employer and the DBS know immediately. You will not be eligible for a refund for the DBS check that is incorrect, and either yourself or your employer will have to pay for a new check as well.
Is my DBS Valid If MY Name Is Spelt Wrong? – Why Does It Matter If My Name Is Spelt Wrong?
As a part of their checks, the DBS will see if there are any matches against the applicant’s name. An incorrect name means that the search will have searched for a name that doesn’t exist, or found a result that isn’t actually the applicant.
This means there’s a possibility you might end up with someone else’s convictions on your DBS Certificate, if you don’t let the DBS know, and get a new one!
If you receive your Certificate and believe there is a mistake that was not made by you, you can dispute it. Disputing is only for when incorrect criminal records are shown, or the DBS has made a mistake that was not made on the application form
Can I Get My Name Changed On The DBS Certificate?
Your name cannot be changed on your DBS Certificate once it has been submitted to the DBS. If there has been a mistake, a new application will have to be made.
Conclusion – Is My DBS Valid If My Name Is Spelt Wrong?
If your name is spelt wrong on your DBS Certificate, it is invalid, as the wrong information has been checked. You will need to inform the DBS, and get a new DBS Check. You will not be eligible for a refund on the DBS check undertaken.
